Soror Rockal Brown Archie was born in Charleston, South Carolina and raised in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. In 1995, Rockal and her twin sister, Rhonda , moved to Anniston, Alabama . After moving to Anniston and enrolling at Anniston High School to complete their 10th grade year, the twins met one of their teachers and future mentors, Hope Henry, who was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Ms. Henry immediately recruited Rockal and Rhonda for the Anniston High School step team and the Rhoer Club. The twins instantly fell in love with Sigma and this is when their fire for Sigma was truly ignited.

The twins went on to be mentored by Soror Henry. They learned about the uniqueness of Sigma, its history, and its purpose. They also learned how to stroll and step. They formed the Rhoer Club step team, and won step competitions during school talent shows and community events, such as Juneteenth. Here is when the twins honed their craft and talent of creating steps and strolls and organizing award-winning step shows. In 1998 when Rockal and Rhonda graduated 2nd and 4th in their graduating class, they continued their studies at Troy State University in Troy, Alabama. Still on fire for Sigma, they were disappointed to find there was no Sigma Gamma Rho chapter on the campus. But it didn’t take long for them to start asking questions and doing the research to find out how to start a chapter.

In 1999 (still in their freshman year), along with 9 other young undergrads, and Bridget Anderson, a graduate staff member at the university, they helped to form the charter chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho, Sorority, Inc. on Troy State’s Campus – the Omicron Pi Chapter. These women were inducted into the sisterhood on March 30, 1999 and later awarded their charter on May 22, 1999. Sorors from UAB, Auburn, and Alabama State all assisted Omicron Pi in its formation. The 11 women of Omicron Pi appropriately named themselves The Rhoyal Dynasty, for every other line would descend from them. Each woman’s line name was the name of a Greek Goddess or Muse. Rockal’s line name was Artemis, the Greek goddess of Dance. Rhonda’s line name was Calliope, the Greek goddess of Poetry. The charter line probated to Diana Ross’s “I’m coming out”, which began a tradition in the Chapter.

The Omicron Pi chapter was coined the “Brick House” Chapter of Omicron Pi, because of its strong foundation, impenetrable bond of sisterhood in the chapter, and the physical beauty of Omicron Pi women (from the Commodores song “Brick House” which is about a woman that is physically beautiful and strong). From 1999, Omicron Pi took the campus by storm by winning every award imaginable in academics, community service, and of course step shows. Omicron Pi won Troy’s homecoming step show 6 years in a row – from 1999 to 2004. Both Rockal and Rhonda went on to spread their Sigma wings in different ways and places. Rhonda went on to become the advisor at Jacksonville State University, then moved to Little Rock, Arkansas and chartered a second chapter in Conway, Arkansas where she served as president. Rockal moved to Tallahassee, FL and joined the graduate chapter where she holds two executive board offices, Epistoleus and Editor& Chief, and sits on several committees, including the National Personnel Committee that is chaired by the 1st Anti-Grand Basileus. Rockal met the love of her life, Chris Archie during her freshman year in college, and has been with him ever since. They have brought two beautiful daughters into the world, Adaija and Allana, and currently live in Crawfordville, FL. Rockal is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Business Administration, and hopes to operate her own mentoring non-profit organization for youth.
